According to Saurabh, the incident happened about 10 years ago, in Sukuma, about 10 kilometers away from the district headquarters, Naxalites had blown up a vehicle full of soldiers with explosives, in which many soldiers including the Deputy Commandant, resident of Kanpur, were killed. Told that when I reached the spot, I saw that a crow was sitting on a tree and eating the eye of our soldier, seeing which I became very sad and angry and vowed to end Naxalism.
Used to tell the failure of government system by singing folk songs
He told that during the year 2013, Naxalites used to dominate in areas like Narayanpur, Dantewada, Bijapur and Sukuma. The drama troupes of Naxalites used to mislead the tribals by conveying the failure of the government system to them through folk songs.
Hospitals, education and vaccination were vocal as major problems in Naxalism areas. The situation was such that basic facilities like electricity, roads, medical care were not available in these areas, the main reason for which was the Naxalites themselves. He used to create resentment in the minds of the tribals towards the government and government institutions.
Listened to problems of local people, got redressal done
According to ASP Saurabh, our job was to create confidence in the government and government institutions in the minds of the tribals, so that the magic of Naxalites could be shattered. After which he worked with the local people to know their problems and through the religious gurus, NGOs, civil society there, he got to know the pain of the villagers and got their solution from the district administration, which gave a sense of trust in the government system among the villagers.
Today 80 percent people trust the government system
According to ASP, even after being posted in Delhi in 2016, his campaign against Naxalism continued. ASP said that people of 8 out of 10 villages used to support Naxalites at that time, but today about 80 percent people have established faith in the government and government institutions. He said that if I say that only I did this then it would be wrong, the entire organization cooperated with me in doing this work, the results of which are visible today.
Self help groups are developing villages
Many times you people keep getting information about encounters and surrender of Naxalites, the main reason for which is the support of the local people towards the government. He told that today a lot of development is taking place in Naxal affected areas. Medical facilities are being provided to the people there at primary, community and district levels. Besides, inter colleges and degree colleges are opening at the district level. Self-help groups have been formed in the villages, whose people themselves are carrying out development in the rural areas.
Leaving Naxalites, youth are considering talent as idol.
Today, industries along with roads, electricity and water are being set up in Naxal affected areas, so that employment can be provided to the people there. The youth of tribal areas are reaching platforms like India’s Got Talent, due to which the youth of Naxal affected areas are now considering them as their idols instead of Naxalites.
