Due to flood water in the forests of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve of Lakhimpur Kheri, the patrolling of the forest department has been affected, taking advantage of which the forest rangers have intensified their activities in the forests. Amidst the drying water, these Vanakattas gained courage by entering the forest and found teak, saku and rosewood.

However, when the forest officials got wind of this, they took immediate action and conducted a raid and recovered the wood. Recently, on the information of an informer, forest workers raided Mohalla Kisan of Palia and seized about half a dozen precious teak logs. During this time, some youths are being detained and interrogated.

Dr. Rangaraju T, Deputy Director of Dudhwa Tiger Reserve, said, “We are constantly keeping an eye on the illegal activities taking place in the forests. Recently, teak logs have been recovered and in this case, five people have been detained and interrogated strictly. A fine of Rs 1.5 lakh has also been imposed on those caught during the action.”

The Forest Department says that the flood water is expected to dry completely soon, after which patrolling will be strengthened so that such incidents can be completely stopped.
