Star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant joined Indian captain Rohit Sharma and England’s Test captain Ben Stokes in an elite list on Sunday (November 3) by becoming the third cricketer in the world to hit 50 sixes in the World Test Championship. Pant achieved the feat during the morning session of the third day’s play of the ongoing third Test between India and New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

He came to bat at No. 5 for India after Virat Kohli’s dismissal and hit a maximum on the third ball he faced. He has 50 sixes to his name in 29 WTC matches for India.

The record for hitting most sixes in WTC is in the name of Stokes. The left-handed batting all-rounder has smashed 81 sixes in 50 matches played so far for the Poms. Stokes is followed by Rohit, who has 56 sixes to his name in 37 matches.

Most sixes in WTC

  • Ben Stokes (England) – 81
  • Rohit Sharma (India) – 56
  • Rishabh Pant (India) – 50*
  • Yashasvi Jaiswal (India) – 35
  • Jonny Bairstow (England) – 32

Pant hammered three sixes during his 59-ball, 60-run knock in the first inning of the ongoing third Test.

India needs 148 runs to win the third Test against New Zealand in Mumbai and avoid a whitewash. However, it is not going to be an easy task for the hosts. They were reeling at 41 for 5 in nine overs and still 107 runs more to win the match.

India have never lost a three-match Test series at home by a margin of 0-3.
