The turtles were recovered on platform number two. It is believed that the smugglers were preparing to catch a train from here to Kolkata. Seeing the police checking the luggage, he left the bags and ran away. The value of the recovered turtles is being estimated in lakhs.
Inspector GRP Rajeev Ranjan says that cases of taking turtles to Kolkata via Prayagraj are coming to light. Even before this, many youths have been caught in turtle smuggling. In the investigation so far, the police have come to know that a gang from Kolkata takes the supply of turtles. These turtles are taken to a doctor. Sex enhancing medicines are made from the teeth, skin and blood of these turtles.
Earlier 14 turtles of rare species were recovered
A week ago, GRP had arrested two smugglers at Chhivki railway station in Prayagraj and recovered 14 tortoises of rare species packed in bags and bags from them. Both the smugglers caught are residents of Sultanpur. GRP called the Forest Department team and handed over the turtles. The value of the recovered turtles has been estimated in lakhs. The turtles were being taken to Kolkata.
The police team caught two suspicious youths on platform number-2 Howrah Ind of Chhivki Railway Station. During interrogation, both of them revealed their names as Achhe (27) son of Lakhan resident of Mahesua police station Hanumanganj district Sultanpur and Govind (20) son of Pawan resident of Mahetua police station Hanumanganj district Sultanpur. When the bags and wallets of both of them were searched, 14 turtles were found in them. After this both were brought to the police station. During further interrogation, both the accused told the police that they smuggled the turtles by catching them from river Ganga and taking them to Kolkata through trains. Turtles have already been sold at expensive prices in Kolkata. GRP registered a case against both the smugglers and informed the Forest Department team. Regional Forest Inspector Ashish Kumar Choubey and Forest Inspector Vishwa Dubey, Forest Guard Mahendra Kumar reached. The turtles were handed over to them under the supervision of the police. The Forest Department team again released the turtles into the Ganga.
