This year Diwali was celebrated with great pomp in Unnao. This can be gauged from the fact that from the day of Diwali till Govardhan Puja, the people of Unnao burst firecrackers worth Rs 20 crore. However, due to this the level of air and noise pollution in the city has also increased significantly.

Business worth Rs 13 crore on Diwali alone

According to firecracker traders, more than Rs 13 crore worth of firecrackers were sold on Diwali alone, which included more than Rs 9 crore worth of firecrackers in Unnao city alone. This time the prices of firecrackers also skyrocketed.

Most of the families spent at least two to two and a half thousand rupees, while some spent eight to ten thousand rupees for expensive fireworks. With the permission of the administration, more than 70 firecracker shops were opened in different areas of the city like GIC Maidan, Abbasbagh, Dostinagar and other areas, where there was huge purchase in rural areas also.

Garbage collection stopped for two days

The cleanliness system was also affected on the second day of Diwali. Due to the holiday, garbage collection work came to a halt for two days, due to which filth spread on the streets and roads. Lack of cleanliness was also seen in areas like PD Nagar, Awas Vikas, and Officers Colony. The sanitation inspector visited many places and instructed his subordinates to dispose of the garbage, but in many areas the garbage could not be collected till night.

PM 2.5 three times more than normal

Experts of Pollution Control Board say that this time due to fireworks in the name of green crackers, there has been an alarming increase in the air quality index. The amount of PM 2.5 has become two and a half to three times more than normal, due to which respiratory problems have increased in children, senior citizens and patients. Officials of the Regional Pollution Board have monitored noise and air pollution before and after Diwali.
