Charlotte Leigh, 33, from Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, found new hope after a chance meeting with the train driver who saved her life. When Charolette attempted to end her life on the tracks, it was the driver’s intervention that changed her course.
The incident dates back to 2019. Charlotte, a nurse and mother of two, had been struggling with mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and emotionally unstable personality disorder. Overwhelmed, she decided to jump onto the tracks. However, the loco pilot spotted her from a distance, took immediate action, and brought the train to an early stop, rushing to her aid.
The driver, displaying incredible compassion and calm, spoke with her for half an hour, encouraging her to find hope and emphasising the importance of life. He then sent her to the nearest station, where the station master and police directed her to a mental healthcare facility.
Deeply moved by his support, Charolette later searched for the man, Dave Le, on social media to express her gratitude and hope to connect further. Their online conversations grew, and after two months of chatting, they met in person. Over the next three years, their bond strengthened, and eventually, they decided to marry. Today, Charlotte, who has since welcomed another child, is a mother of three and credits her husband, Dave, with helping her rediscover meaning in life and guiding her through difficult times.
In another incident, a suspected suicide attempt at Mumbai’s Atal Setu Bridge was prevented by a cab driver and traffic staff from the Nhava Sheva unit. Reema Patel, a 56-year-old resident of Mulund, was pulled back from the edge in a dramatic rescue. CCTV footage shows the cab driver holding her by her hair while traffic staff climbed onto the railing to ensure her safety.
