Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton recently paid tribute to Formula One icon Ayrton Senna in the Brazilian Grand Prix 2024. Hamilton finished out of the top five at the Autodrome Jose Carlos Pace on November 10.

Despite the seven-time World Champion’s lower finish, he walked out of the event winning the hearts of fans. The British racer drove Senna’s 1990 title-winning McLaren MP4/5B race car ahead of the race in Sau Paulo.

The British legend waved the Brazilian flag while doing laps on the track. A video of the Mercedes driver’s warm gesture was shared on Instagram. “Senna’s 1990 McLaren Driven by Lewis Hamilton!” read the post.

The video began with Lewis Hamilton speeding through the wet track in Sau Paulo. Fans could be heard cheering the racer on as he sped past the starting point. The post has also drawn several reactions from fans in the comments section. One of them claimed that no driver other than Hamilton deserved to drive the piece of F1 history. “There is no driver more deserving,” he wrote.

Another wrote, “Sir Lewis Hamilton Royalty.”

One netizen added, “Nice to hear it! Bring back real power sound and feel.”

“Senna would have been happy! Go Lewis,” read another comment.

“That would’ve been so cool to see! I’m jealous of all of them,” wrote one more.

Ayrton Senna is one of the most revered names in the history of Formula One. Born in Sau Paulo, Senna was known for his spectacular racing style. He also produced some classic wet-weather racecraft moments while winning three championships in his career. Unfortunately, the iconic McLaren driver lost his life in a car crash on May 1, 1994. He was competing at the San Marino Grand Prix. During Lap 7 of the race, Senna lost control of his automobile before going off the track and hitting an unprotected concrete barrier.

Coming back to the Brazilian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton finished the race in 10th place. Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won the race with a time of 2:06:54. Verstappen came up with an emphatic show to charge from 17th on the grid to win the Brazilian Grand Prix.
