How to make Thekua Recipe for Chhath Puja at Home
Ingredients Needed
- 300 grams of gram flour
- 2 tablespoons of ghee
- 3 to 4 cups (150 grams) jaggery
- ½ cup (50 grams) grated coconut
- Refined oil
Preparation
Cut the jaggery into small pieces and then add them to a pot with less than 1/2 cup of water. Boil it.
Stir the mixture until the jaggery dissolves completely and then strain it to remove impurities. Set the mixture aside to cool and add ghee.
Peel and crush cardamom into a coarse powder.
Mix flour, grated coconut and powdered cardamom in a large bowl.
Gradually pour in the jaggery mixture and knead it into a stiff, slightly dry dough.
Next, heat oil in a wok. While the oil heats, shape small portions of dough by pressing with your hands or using a mold for design.
For decoration, press the dough onto a sieve or grater to add texture if molds aren’t available.
Fry the shaped thekua in medium-hot oil until golden brown then place on absorbent paper to remove excess oil. Repeat for the remaining dough.
Your thekua is ready. Enjoy this delicious treat or offer it as prasad for Chhath Puja.
