Crowd of devotees at Amhatghat, busy making altar

On the Amhatghat coast of the city, people were busy making altars for Chhath Puja since morning. While the devotees were making their altars, they were also writing their names there so that they could get a place during the puja. Bedi was being decorated with rangoli.

Arrangements were being made by the municipality for street lighting and cleanliness at this place. Every year thousands of fasting women worship Lord Bhaskar here and pray for the welfare of the people along with their families.

Fasting woman shared her Chhath journey

When Suman Chaurasia, the fasting woman who was making altar at Amhatghat, was talked to, she told that this is her sixth year of Chhath fast. This year she is performing puja here. She told, “Kharna has started, Nahay Khay was yesterday, today is Kharna, and tomorrow evening we will offer Argh to the setting sun. From today onwards I am fasting.”

Municipality Chairman laid emphasis on cleanliness

Municipality President Neha Verma expressed concern about the cleanliness system at the ghat. He said, “There is a need for awareness among the people regarding cleanliness. Cleaning is being done here, but some people keep dumping garbage etc. I have given instructions for better cleanliness at the ghat.”

This year, on the occasion of Chhath Puja, the municipality is making full preparations for cleaning and other arrangements at all the ghats, so that devotees can participate in the puja without any hassle.
