The third day of Chhath Puja, the great festival of worship of Lord Surya, is being celebrated with great enthusiasm. There is excitement of Chhath Puja everywhere. This four-day long festival started on Monday with Nahay-Khay. On Tuesday, women fasting from Kharna started waterless fast.

In such a situation, preparations are going on in full swing in Gorakhpur for this festival. Along with cleaning the ghats, the altars for worship have been ready. Preparations for worship are also going on at artificial ponds built at various places in the city. Even today, Maheva is seen shopping for Chhath in retail markets including wholesale markets. Preparations for Chhath Puja of Shriramghat, Rajghat and Shrigorakshghat on Rapti coast are in the final stages.
Preparations for puja going on in homes At the same time, preparations for worship are going on in homes since morning. Women are washing the fruits and items used in puja and keeping them in the door. Also, Thekua is being made in homes for Prasad. In the afternoon, women will go to the ghats singing auspicious songs and stand in the water and worship Lord Surya. After this, the fasting women will return to their homes after offering Arghya to the Astachalgami (setting sun). Then at 3 am in the morning, women will go to the ghats for worship twice and then the great festival will end with Arghya to the rising sun.
Preparation for filling Kosi also In whose house Kosi is filled on Chhath after any auspicious event or fulfillment of any vow. There are preparations to fill Kosi in the houses of various localities of the metropolis. For this, people were busy collecting items like clay elephant, urn, lamps, sugarcane, fruits etc. which are used in filling Kosi.
Mothers keep fast for the long life of their sons According to astrologer Ravi Shankar Pandey, mothers observe a strict fast on Chhath for the sake of their sons. In this fast, both Shakti i.e. Mother Shashthi and Brahma i.e. Sun God are worshipped. That is why it is called Suryashashthi. While Lord Bhaskar bestows all the glory with this fast, Mother Shashthi is pleased and gives a son, and also protects the sons.
Chhath Puja will be held at 1145 places in Gorakhpur Chhath Puja will be celebrated mainly at a total of 1145 places in Gorakhpur, where a large number of devotees and their families will gather. Worship will be held at 181 ghats and reservoirs in the urban area. 136 statues of Chhath Mata will be installed. Puja will be held at 427 ghats/reservoirs in the northern region.
A total of 56 Chhath Mata idols and 42 Chhath Mata idols will be installed along with worship at 537 ghats/reservoirs in the southern region. In view of this, SSP Dr. Gaurav Grover gave instructions to make strict security arrangements. He said that along with security, special attention should be given to traffic management.
Security system seen through drone camera SP City Abhinav Tyagi said that most of the devotees will reach Guru Gorakhnath Ghat of Rapti River in Rajghat. More than 16 thousand people are estimated to worship here. AIIMS area has the maximum number of places of worship, while Kotwali area has the least number of places of worship, only two places of worship are in Kotwali area. For security, 6 SP, 13 CO including SHO, Inspector and other policemen of all the police stations have been deployed. For security reasons, the police monitored Rajghat with drone cameras.
Divers of NDRF, SDRF and PAC deployed on the ghats Divers of NDRF, SDRF and PAC have been put on duty at all major ghats. Local police will patrol by boat. Along with installing CCTV cameras at many places including Gorakhnath Temple, Suryakund, Rajghat, Muktipath of Barhalganj and Golaghat, surveillance will be done through drones.
Police pickets have been installed at places of worship, where policemen will be present 24 hours. Along with lighting, duties of boats, sailors and divers have been deployed at the ghat.
Day wise program of Chhath festival
- First day (Nahay-Khay): 5 November – After bathing, the fasting women will eat pumpkin-rice and take a resolution.
- Second day (Kharna): 6 November – On this day women will take Prasad in the evening, there will be a fast for the whole day.
- Third day (Sandhya Arghya): 7 November – Fasting women will observe waterless fast and offer Arghya to the setting sun at 5:29 pm.
- Fourth day (Arghya to the rising sun): 8 November – The festival will conclude with offering arghya to the rising sun at 6:32 am.
