The years-long wait of the people of Indore, the economic capital of Madhya Pradesh, is soon set to end. The city is ready to receive Metro connectivity, with operations expected to begin in 2025.

An official from the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation stated that the Metro will initially operate on a priority section of 5.9 km, linking Gandhi Nagar station in the city with station number three on the super corridor. The trial run of this section was conducted in September 2023.

The official told news agency PTI that efforts are underway to commence commercial operations at the start of the new year. Various trials are ongoing along the route, and once completed, the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation will submit its report to Metro Rail Safety.

Following approval from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), Metro operations will commence. The Metro stations in the city have been designed to accommodate trains of six coaches, although initially, only three coaches will be used. Additional coaches may be added if passenger numbers increase.

The official also mentioned that each Metro coach can accommodate about 300 passengers, with 50 seated. On September 14, 2019, the foundation for the first phase of the Metro project was laid in Indore at a cost of Rs 7,500.80 crore. The total Metro rail corridor will span approximately 31.5 km in the city.
