Julie Gibson Clark, a 56-year-old biohacking enthusiast from the US, was recently recognised by the ‘Rejuvenation Olympics’, a platform that ranks competitors based on their biological ageing rate. After securing second place globally, she outpaced billionaire Bryan Johnson, who is known for using his son’s blood to maintain youthfulness. Clark’s results showed that she ages about 34% slower than the average person. Clark’s progress was confirmed by the Dunedin PACE blood test which examines biomarkers associated with ageing.

According to a report in Business Insider, Clark’s interest in health optimisation comes from her upbringing as the daughter of a NASA astronaut. Her father, a former Skylab astronaut, taught her the value of nutrition to boost performance. Clark, a professional recruiter, focuses on longevity and managing stress and aims to lead an active life and spend time with her teenage son.

Her 25-year health journey began with dietary supplements and home-cooked meals to tackle chronic issues. Over time, she stopped alcohol and taking antidepressants and shifted her focus to a more sustainable, healthy lifestyle. Clark credits her success to having a clear goal or “why” to guide her.

“You’ve got to figure out your ‘why,’ your intention, and your resources,” Clark told Business Insider, stressing the need for a clear, lasting objective in biohacking.

Clark firmly believes that achieving healthy ageing doesn’t require pricey treatments or gadgets. Simple, cost-effective changes to your diet and exercise routine can make a big difference.

Clark’s daily routine costs just $12 (approximately Rs 1,011) a day and includes habits such as meditation, daily prayers, a 7 AM gym session and taking a hot sauna and a cold shower which she calls her “mini spa treatment.”

“You have to go, ‘Well, this is the rest of my life.’ This isn’t 10 weeks to the beach body, or even four weeks, or any of those things. I’m going to take one new thing and I’m going to do it until it’s so habitual, it’s as easy as brushing my teeth,” she said.

Clark’s diet includes eating a pound of healthy vegetables each day such as leafy greens, purple carrots, sweet potatoes and celery. In summer, she boils spinach and keeps it in the fridge to add to dishes like spaghetti sauce. In winter, she enjoys a green latte. She also includes protein in her meals like chicken, eggs and locally sourced meat. “I try to get a whole rainbow of stuff,” she said.

Her diet also includes Omega-3s for brain function, B vitamins for energy and magnesium-rich greens to fight common deficiencies.
