Students set off fireworks in AMU
Aligarh Muslim University got a big relief from the Supreme Court on Friday. The 7-judge bench of the court has overturned its own decision of 1967 with a majority of 4:3. Now a bench of 3 judges will decide on the minority status of AMU. Due to which AMU has got relief.

After the court’s decision, students in AMU expressed their happiness. A large number of students gathered on the campus and burst fireworks. Congratulated each other by feeding them sweets. Now the new bench of judges will decide whether AMU is a minority institution or not.

There was a dispute over reserving medical seats
Aligarh Muslim University considered itself a minority institution in 2005 and reserved 50 percent seats in PG courses in JN Medical College for Muslims. The controversy had started since then. Hindu students had gone to Allahabad High Court against this.
After which the High Court did not consider AMU as a minority institution and gave its decision in favor of Hindu students. Then AMU went to the Supreme Court. In 2019, the Supreme Court had transferred this case to a constitutional bench of 7 judges. Its decision has been announced on Friday.
Students from every faculty burst fireworks in the campus. The proctorial team remained active during this period.
Security increased outside the university
In view of the Supreme Court’s decision, forces were deployed outside the university campus since morning. A large number of forces were deployed outside Bab-e-Syed and Century Gate. Along with the police, the proctorial team of the university was also alerted.
On the other hand, students were also waiting for the decision since morning. After the decision, students from medical colleges to other faculties of the university expressed happiness. University administration officials have also expressed happiness in this matter and said that this is a victory of democracy.
