A dominant bowling display along with Sanju Samson’s sensational century gives India the win by 61 runs.
India beat South Africa by 61 runs in the first T20I at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban on Saturday.
Sanju Samson at the top of the order, set the platform for a big target as he scored his second T20I century in 47 balls. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played cameos but the rest of the batters struggled to get going as India set a target of 203 runs.
India’s bowlers dominated in the second innings as trio of Arshdeep Singh, Avesh Khan and Varun Chakravarthy gave the visitors three wickets in the powerplay to put the Proteas under pressure.
Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller looked to stitch a partnership through the middle stages of the second innings. But Chakravarthy’s double blow in the 12th over resulted in both men being dismissed before they got going.
Ravi Bishnoi was also amongst the wickets as he struck thrice to get rid of the lower middle order as India were firmly in front.
The Indian skipper, Suryakumar also had his moment on the field after he hit the stumps to get rid of Gerald Coetzee who seemed to be timing the ball well.
Avesh Khan got the final wicket to finish with two to help India seal the win and continue their dominant run following the T20 World Cup 2024.
Hardik Pandya is the only Indian bowler to remain wicketless in the second innings. Now the Indian team will focus on the second T20I which takes place at the St George’s Park Cricket Ground in Gqeberha on Sunday.
