Mohanlal Confirms Permanent Resignation From AMMA Leadership Amid Ongoing Controversy: Report – News18
Last Updated:
While there was speculation that Mohanlal might rejoin AMMA and lead them again, he has now made it clear that he will not go back.
Months after resigning from the position, actor Mohanlal has confirmed that he will not return as the President of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA), as per the latest report. The actor resigned from AMMA in August following the release of the Hema Commission report, which revealed serious allegations of misbehaviour against some members of the organisation. The report led to the complete dissolution of AMMA’s executive committee. While there was speculation that Mohanlal might rejoin the committee, he has now made it clear that he will not go back.
According to OnManorama’s report, Mohanlal has confirmed he will not take the position of any office bearer in AMMA. Earlier, there were discussions about bringing back the previous executive committee. Former vice president Jayan Cherthala had also mentioned the idea of restoring the old members, which was also supported by actor Suresh Gopi. However, after Mohanlal’s confirmation, it looks like the idea of bringing back the previous members won’t be moving forward.
Moreover, Mohanlal had spoken about his resignation from AMMA and Hema Commission report following the launch of the Kerala Cricket League in August. As per the portal, the veteran star said, “Association of Malayalam Movie Artists is not a trade union. It is like a family. It is unfortunate that the association is being hounded. The entire industry should answer for the report.”
“I have also given my statement to the Hema Commission twice in my capacity as an actor and producer. I welcome the observations of the committee. The culprits should definitely be brought before the law. That is the task of the police. We will cooperate in every way possible,” he added.
Earlier reports mentioned that director Ranjith and actor Siddique resigned from their leadership roles in the Kerala Chalachitra Academy and AMMA following allegations of alleged misbehaviour. Other artists, including Mukesh, Jayasurya, Edavela Babu and Maniyanpilla Raju, also faced accusations. These issues came to light after the Hema Commission report, which mentioned the challenges faced by women in the Malayalam film industry, was made public on August 19, 2024. The report was submitted to the Kerala government five years earlier.
