With Kate Middleton now making progress in her recovery, the Prince of Wales expressed how “proud” he is of his wife. Reflecting on these tough times, he shared his thoughts in an interview to mark the end of his week-long visit to South Africa.
When asked about how his past year has been, Prince William said, “Honestly, it’s been dreadful,” at the Earthshot prize awards ceremony in Cape Town.
Describing it as the “hardest year of his life,” Prince William shared, “Trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult.”
In February, Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles III had been diagnosed with cancer. However, the type of cancer was not disclosed. Following much speculation about Kate Middleton’s health, the Princess of Wales revealed her own diagnosis in March, this year.
“But I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal,” Prince William added in his interview.
Kate Middleton made her return to public duties in September. In a video message featuring her family, the Princess of Wales revealed that she had undergone chemotherapy and was feeling much better. “I am doing what I can to stay cancer-free,” she shared at the time.
“The last nine months have been incredibly tough for us as a family. Life as you know it can change in an instant and we have had to find a way to navigate the stormy waters and road unknown,” a part of her message read.
Kate Middleton also expressed her heartfelt gratitude to those who supported her during her recovery. She mentioned how grateful she and William were for the support they received and how they drew great strength from all those who helped them during that time. “Everyone’s kindness, empathy, and compassion has been truly humbling,” she shared.
Meanwhile, King Charles, who was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer, was granted permission by his doctors to take a brief break from his ongoing treatment in October to resume his royal duties, according to a report in the Daily Mail. He is still continuing his treatment.
