Sanju Samson created history by becoming the first Indian batter to smash consecutive centuries in T20I cricket.
Star Indian batter, Sanju Samson who seemed to struggle to find consistency with the bat, seems to have finally found his groove as he smashed his second T20I hundred during the opening T20I against South Africa at the Kingsmead Cricket Ground in Durban.
Samson throughout his career, struggled to establish his identity within the Indian side but now under the leadership of Suryakumar Yadav seems to have found his place in the side at the top of the order.
Following his sensational century in Hyderabad, he has replicated an equally stellar knock in Durban as he smashed a century in just 47 deliveries to give India the perfect start to their batting innings. Both Surykumar and Tilak Varma had chipped in with cameos, but it was Sanju who was able to flawlessly clear the ropes with ease.
Samson became the fourth batter to have scored consecutive hundreds in T20 internationals. The likes of England’s Phil Salt, South Africa’s Rilee Rossouw and France’s Gustav McKeon as well.

As a result of his fine knock, he also finds himself in the record books as his 47-ball hundred is the sixth fastest century scored by an Indian in the T20I format. The record is currently held by the former Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma who scored a 35-ball hundred against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Sanju seems to be intent on going past the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad to solidfy his case to take that opening batter’s slot in the long run in the T20I side and his back-to-back centuries would have certainly helped his cause.
South Africa will now have a mammoth task of chasing down 203 runs, something that has never been done in this ground ever.
