In its order after the hearing, the court has sought information about the meetings held by the National Disaster Management Authority in the last two years on the next date. The court also said that if the disaster authority does not take any steps for the safety of children even after the directions of the Supreme Court, then an appropriate order will be passed against it on the next date. The next hearing in the case will be on November 11.
This order was given by the division bench of Justice Alok Mathur and Justice Brijraj Singh after hearing the PIL filed by Gomti River Bank Residents in the year 2020. Through the petition, the petitioner also raised before the court the issue of schools running in the residential areas of the city.
During the hearing of the case, the court has asked the schools and disaster management to implement the guidelines given by the Supreme Court in the year 2009 in the Avinash Mehrotra case. In compliance with the order given by the court on the previous date, the lawyer appearing on behalf of the state government told the court that there are a total of about one lakh 41 thousand schools in Uttar Pradesh. Due to the large number of schools in the state, it may take about 8 months for the state government to inspect all the schools.
