Anees Bazmee revealed how he casted Vidya Balan and Madhuri Dixit in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The horror comedy has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the box office.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has been making waves ever since it was released in theatres on November 1. The movie clashed with Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again and it has grossed over Rs 100 crore in theatres. In a recent interview, director Anees Bazmee opened up about how he brought together Madhuri Dixit and Vidya Balan in this horror comedy.

In a conversation with Hindi Rush, Anees Bazmee spoke about casting Madhuri Dixit and Vidya Balan. He revealed that he always wanted to rope in Balan because she was a part of the first movie of the franchise. He added that getting her back to the franchise after more than a decade would generate a lot of buzz. The director said, “When we wrote the film, I kept wondering how it would be wonderful if Vidya (Balan) did this film. She, attaching herself to the film, also created a lot of buzz that she is doing this film 17 years after doing the original film (Priyadarshan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2007) since she was coming back.”

Talking about Dixit, he mentioned that he had met her at a party once. He recalled that Dixiy had complimented him for his films. Bazmee said that he felt it was the perfect opportunity to approach her with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and he did not want to let go of the opportunity. He continued, “I was like ‘inhone apni taareef kar di hai, chalo inko pakadte hai, yeh mauka haath se nahi jaane denge (She has really praised me, now let’s seize the opportunity, I can’t let this chance slip away).’ I met her and narrated the story. She felt everything was right — the producers, the star cast, the director, so she said, ‘Chalo karte hai (let’s do it).’”

Apart from Balan and Dixit, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 starred Kartik Aaryan, Triptii Dimri, and Rajpal Yadav in key roles.
