‘Could Go Beyond Rs 25-26 Crore’: Ex-IND Opener Picks The Most Expensive Player Of IPL 2025 – News18

Aakash Chopra suggested that Pant could shatter all records by becoming the most expensive player this year.

Who will fetch the biggest deal at IPL 2025 mega auctions?

The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) mega players’ auction is expected to be massive, given the players who will be up for grabs. Five out of ten franchises have released their captains and the likes of Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul are expected to set the auction arena, in Jeddah, ablaze.

Speaking of the mega auctions, former India opener Aakash Chopra suggested that Pant could shatter all records by becoming the most expensive player this year. Australia pacer Mitchell Starc scripted history in 2023, becoming the costliest player in IPL history with a deal worth Rs 24.75 crore from KKR. Chopra said Pant could fetch beyond that.

“Rishabh Pant. I’m saying it again. He could still become the most expensive player in the history of the IPL,” said Chopra, speaking on his YouTube channel.

Earlier on October 31, Delhi Capitals rolled out their list of retained players which didn’t include Pant. It ended the wicketkeeper’s 9-year-long association with the franchise. As per media reports, the DC management wanted to retain Pant as a player but not in a leader’s capacity which eventually became the reason behind the wicketkeeper-batter parting ways with the franchise.

“He [Pant] could go even beyond Rs 25-26 crore,” Chopra continued.

The cricketer-turned-commentator further stated that several teams would get involved in an intense bidding war, pinpointing Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) who would be interested in having him.

“I can see three teams going absolutely hammer and tongs for him. One has Rs 110 cr (PBKS), one has Rs 83 cr (RCB). They’ll fight each other and a lot of money will be spent,” predicted Chopra.

Rishabh Pant played 111 matches for Delhi Capitals, scoring 3,284 runs at an average of 35.31. Last season, he ended as DC’s top scorer with 446 runs in 13 games, averaging 40.55. He also hit 3 half-centuries and 25 sixes in the season.
