Nayanthara, revered as the Lady Superstar of Indian cinema, has always been one of the industry’s most skilled and at the same time, one of the most private celebrities. Unlike many, she’s preferred to keep her personal life firmly under wraps, rarely offering glimpses beyond her on-screen roles. It was only last year that she surprised fans with an Instagram debut, a step taken to promote her Bollywood appearance in Atlee’s blockbuster Jawan. Now, in an even bigger move, she’s inviting fans to see her life like never before through a docu-series titled Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale.
The trailer, which was dropped on Saturday, offers an intimate look into Nayanthara’s journey — tracing her path from modest beginnings to the heights of stardom. Featuring anecdotes from friends and industry colleagues like Rana Daggubati, Taapsee Pannu and Nagarjuna Akkineni, as well as her family and husband, filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, the documentary deals with her dedication to her career and her evolution as a daughter, sister, wife and mother.
Rana, who starred alongside her in Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum, affectionately calls Nayanthara a “thug” — a label she’s evidently worn with pride throughout her career. Nagarjuna, who worked with her on Greeku Veerudu, reflects on her past personal struggles.
The trailer also teases glimpses of her personal growth over the years, leading to her grand wedding with Vignesh Shivan, an event attended by industry legends like Shah Rukh Khan and Mani Ratnam.
“I’ve shared so much of my life on screen, but this documentary is my gift to the fans — a chance to let them in on the chapters that shaped me,” said Nayanthara. “Creating this film has been a true labour of love, and I’m excited for them to see this side of my world. I want to thank my fans for being with me every step of the way; I hope it feels as personal to everyone as it does to me,” she added.
“Nayanthara is my wife, my best friend, and someone I truly look up to,” Vignesh Shivan added. He further mentioned, “She’s faced every challenge head-on and has emerged stronger each time, embodying resilience in every sense. I’m really proud of her, and I’m excited for her fans to see the real her — the beautiful soul she is beyond the spotlight.”
The much-anticipated docuseries, Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairy Tale, is set to premiere on Netflix India on November 18, coinciding with her 40th birthday. Fans are eagerly waiting to see this unique portrait of a star who has always been as mysterious as she is beloved.
