Watch: Gudakesh Motie Takes One-Handed Stunner To Remove Jos Buttler For A Golden Duck – News18
Last Updated:
England skipper Jos Buttler was dismissed for a golden duck thanks to a stellar catch by Gudakesh Motie in the deep.
Jos Buttler is known to be amongst the most destructive T20I batters of the modern era. Considering his reputation in the shortest format, it took a humongous effort to get rid of the English captain with West Indies’ Gudakesh Motie taking an absolute stunner in the first T20I between the two sides in Barbados on Saturday.
Buttler made his return to the national side after being out of action for four months due to a calf injury. Interestingly, he came out to bat at number three with Phil Salt on the other end, looking in fine touch.
The Englishman was up against Romario Shepherd in the seventh over. In his very first delivery, the bowler went for a slow and short delivery outside the off-stump which Buttler looked to play the upper cut shot against.
But Motie who was stood at the deep third-man region, managed to get his left hand on the ball during his jump to complete a stellar catch. He slipped following the catch but was sure to not touch the boundary to give the West Indies a key wicket.
Despite the stunning fielding effort, it was not enough for the West Indies as they suffered a defeat by eight wickets. Salt, who opened the batting struck a fine century off 103 balls to help England chase down the target in 16.5 overs.
Jacob Bethell who came out at number three, also struck 58 runs in 36 balls as the duo went on to seal the chase for the visitors.
The two sides will be yet again with four more T20Is set to be played later on. It will be interesting to see if Buttler will continue playing at the number three position or whether he will go back up the order for the second game to be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on November 10.
