Lawyers’ strike will continue for the 10th day on Wednesday in Meerut and West UP. Lawyers have not been doing judicial work since November 4. Due to the lawyers’ strike, the hearing of lakhs of cases in the courts of the districts of West UP has been affected.

The joint meeting of Meerut Bar Association and District Bar Association was held on Tuesday at 3:30 pm in the Pandit Nanchand Auditorium of Meerut Bar Association. The meeting was presided over by Meerut Bar Association President Rohitashv Kumar Aggarwal and District Bar Association President Ravindra Kumar Singh and conducted by Meerut Bar Association General Secretary Amit Kumar Dixit and former General Secretary Vimal Kumar Tomar. In the meeting, a resolution was unanimously passed to abstain from judicial work on November 13 in connection with the lathi charge on advocates in Ghaziabad.

Decision taken after meeting on Tuesday evening

The strike started from October 4

There was an altercation in the Ghaziabad courtroom on October 29 after an argument between the lawyers and the district judge. There was an uproar. The police had lathicharged the lawyers in the court room. The district judge was taken away from among the lawyers by the police officers. The lawyers are demanding transfer of the district judge and police officers in this case. Since November 4, lawyers are not doing judicial work in all the courts of West UP.

These are the demands of the lawyers

The Central Struggle Committee meeting regarding lathi charge on lawyers in Ghaziabad was held on Thursday in the library of Pandit Nanak Chand Auditorium in Meerut. 8 proposals were passed in this meeting. It was decided that if their proposals were not accepted by 21st November, then strict decisions would be taken in the meeting of the Central Struggle Committee on 22nd November.

In eight resolutions, a demand was made to conduct a judicial inquiry into the lathicharge case as soon as possible. In relation to the lathi charge case, a contempt petition should be filed in the High Court immediately. The District Judge should be transferred to another district by 21st November. Cases should be registered against the police personnel involved in the lathi charge incident. Injured advocates should be given financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each. The cases registered against lawyers should be withdrawn.
