Pakistan may withdraw from Champions Trophy: Pakistani newspaper claims – ICC informed about India not going

Pakistan may withdraw from the Champions Trophy to be held next year. This claim was made by Pakistani newspaper The Dawn quoting a PCB source. The newspaper wrote- ‘If the rights to host the tournament are taken away from the country. Then Pakistan will withdraw from the Champions Trophy.
A day earlier, the International Olympic Council (ICC) had told the Pakistan Cricket Board in an email that Team India will not go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy. After receiving the email, the Pakistani board informed its government about the matter and sought advice. As per the Champions Trophy draft schedule, the tournament will be played from February 19 to March 9 next year. The matches of the event can be held in Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.

If hybrid model is refused, the tournament will be held in another country According to the report, after PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi rejected the possibility of hybrid model (holding it somewhere else instead of India), ICC may propose to hold the entire tournament in some other country.
The source said, ‘In case this happens, the government is considering some options, one of which is that the government should tell the PCB that Pakistan should not participate in the Champions Trophy.’ He said- The government is taking this matter seriously.

Pakistan gets hosting of Champions Trophy 2025 The hosting of Champions Trophy 2025 has been given to Pakistan. PCB has submitted the draft of the venue and schedule of the tournament to ICC. The tournament is to be played in February-March next year. According to the draft, India has been placed in Group A along with Pakistan, Bangladesh and New Zealand. Group B includes Australia, South Africa, England and Afghanistan. According to the schedule, India’s three matches are to be held on 20 February (from Bangladesh), 23 February (from Pakistan) and 2 March (from New Zealand). All India matches can be played in Lahore.
Asia Cup had to be held in Sri Lanka Last year also Pakistan had got the hosting of Asia Cup. Even then, when India did not go there, this tournament was held on ‘hybrid model’. The matches against India were held in Sri Lanka. In the final match held in Colombo, the Indian team won the championship by defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets.
