Wicketkeeper-batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz was in action for Afghanistan on Monday (November 11) during the third and final ODI of the three-match series. In the match played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the right-handed batter opened the innings for the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side and scored 101 runs from 120 balls to help Afghanistan chase down the target of 245 runs in 48.2 overs for the loss of just five wickets. During his stay at the crease, Gurbaz, who was not retained by KKR ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, hammered five fours and seven sixes. He added 100 runs for the fourth wicket with Azmatullah Omarzai, who remained unbeaten on 70 runs from 77 balls.
By scoring his eighth ODI century in the 46th match for Afghanistan, Gurbaz equalled legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar’s world record of most ODI centuries before turning 23. Tendulkar, who finished his 463 matches long ODI career with 49 centuries, crossed the triple figure mark eight times in ODIs before turning 23. Apart from Gurbaz and Tendulkar, the only other batter to score eight centuries before turning 23 is Quinton de Kock.

Thanks to Gurbaz’s super show with the bat in Sharjah, Afghanistan bounced back from top-order collapse and chased down the target to win the bilateral series with a scoreline of 2-1. For Bangladesh, Mahmudullah top-scored by making 98 runs from as many balls, and stand-in captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed 66 runs from 119 deliveries. Mehidy was leading the Bangladeshi team in the series decider after Najmul Hossain Shanto was ruled out due to a groin injury.
