Arshdeep Singh held his nerve to survive Marco Jansen’s late flurry of runs to take the win by 11 runs in Centurion and also the series-lead.
Team India overcame Marco Jansen’s late flurry of runs as Arshdeep Singh showcased his class in the final over to help India win by 11 runs in the third T20I at the SuperSport Park in Centurion.
It was a high-scoring game with both sides scoring more than 200 runs. Tilak Varma was the standout batter in the first innings, scoring his maiden T20I hundred while Abhishek Sharma scored a half-century in just 25 balls. Debutant Ramandeep Singh also had a fairly decent cameo, scoring 15 runs in the six balls he faced.
The pair of Keshav Maharaj and Andile Simelane were the key bowlers in the South African bowling attack as they got two wickets each.
Considering India set a target of 220 runs, South Africa went all guns blazing right from the start. Both Ryan Rickelton and Reeza Hendricks looked to start strong but both men were dismissed by the end of the powerplay as Arshdeep and Varun Chakravarthy got both the opening batters respectively.
Tristan Stubbs who was in good touch till the previous game, failed to make use of the high-scoring track as he was dismissed by Axar Patel after scoring a run-a-ball 12. The South African skipper, Aiden Markram looked to be in good touch but a rare shorter delivery by Charavarthy was mistimed to find the man at the deep mid-wicket region.
When the game seemed to be gone, Heinrich Klaasen showcased his class as he almost single-handedly looked to bring the hosts back in the game. But after scoring 41 runs in 22 balls, Arshdeep got the big wicket to get rid of South Africa’s ace.
Hardik Pandya got David Miller dismissed after a run-a-ball 18. Just as the game seemed to be done and dusted, Marco Jansen looked to make use of his long levers as he seemed to strike the ball over the boundary ropes effortlessly.
The southpaw scored a 16-ball fifty as the game went down to the final over where South Africa needed 25 runs to take the win. But some late movement with the ball resulted in Arshdeep getting the hosts’ final hope as India went on to take the win by 11 runs and take the series lead 2-1 as well.
The final game will be played in the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on November 15.
