The court has ordered the director of the Defense Food and Research Laboratory, Mysore, to study all the Anganwadi centers in the state and file its report in the court. The court said that a report will be prepared after examining the quantity and quality of nutritious food provided at Anganwadi centers through the Integrated Child Development Services Scheme (ICDS Scheme) and how this scheme is being run across the state. Do this and file it in the court within four weeks.

This order was given by the division bench of Justice AR Masoodi and Justice Subhash Vidyarthi after hearing the PIL filed on behalf of Shipra Devi. During the hearing on the petition, it was revealed that the Government of India should also be made a party in the case, after which the court ordered the petitioner to make the Government of India also a party in this petition.

The petitioner said that a total of 1,89,140 Anganwadi centers are working to run the ICDS scheme in the state, while the number of Anganwadi workers is 1,78,706 and the number of beneficiaries under this scheme is 2,22,33,550.

The court said that the basic objective of this scheme, started in the year 1975, is to take care of the health of infants and lactating women. The court said that looking at the data presented by the petitioner, it shows that there is a need for transparency in running the scheme, mainly regarding the supply of nutritious food.
