The engagement ceremony of a minor girl was stopped in a village of Usrahar police station area of Etawah. As soon as the information was received, the district administration team reached the spot and did a commendable job of stopping child marriage. However, people from the groom’s side fled from the spot as soon as they got wind of the action.

Information was received on child helpline On Friday evening, information was received on Child Helpline 1098 that the engagement ceremony of a minor girl was going on in a village of Usrahar police station area. According to the information, people from the groom’s side had come from Kurra police station area of Mainpuri district. Child Protection Officer Sohan Gupta, AHTU in-charge Diwakar, SI Sanjay Kumar and police force reached the spot and stopped the engagement.

13 year old girl rescued, family could not provide proof The team rescued the minor girl and sent her to One Stop Centre, Etawah for temporary protection. The age of the girl seemed to be around 13 years. The family could not present any valid proof of his age. Now the girl will be presented before the Child Welfare Committee, where a decision will be taken regarding her future.
Campaign against child marriage intensifies in the district District Coordinator of Child Helpline, Kirti Gupta said that a campaign is being run to completely stop child marriage in the district. Just two days ago, three child marriages were stopped on the occasion of Devuthani festival. He said that wherever information about child marriage is being received, action is being taken with immediate effect.
Awareness increased due to active administration This incident is the result of the vigilance of the child helpline and the administration, which gave the message of curbing social evils like child marriage. In such cases, the public is also being appealed to immediately report incidents like child marriage on helpline number 1098, so that timely action can be taken.
