In Hardoi, devotees started flocking to take bath in the Ganga since Thursday night on the occasion of Kartik Purnima festival. The roads were seen immersed in faith, where devotees were seen moving towards Rajghat in tractor-trolleys. This time too, extensive arrangements have been made by the administration.

Lakhs of devotees will reach Rajghat early in the morning to take a dip. DM and SP themselves inspected the ghats, took stock of the arrangements and issued guidelines. DM has informed about proper arrangements for cleanliness, electricity system and parking.

Despite the ban on traveling by tractor-trolley in UP, devotees were seen risking their lives by resorting to these means to bathe in the Ganga. On Thursday, people from different areas of Hardoi traveling in trolleys towards Ganga raises questions on the efficiency of the administration.

It is noteworthy that in October 2022, a major accident took place near Kanpur, in which a tractor-trolley filled with devotees overturned in the Ganga. 26 people including 11 children died tragically in this accident. After this, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had imposed strict restrictions on traveling in trolleys and ordered that tractor-trolleys should be used only for carrying goods.
Administration’s indifference
However, despite the instructions of the Chief Minister, neither people are taking this threat seriously nor is the administration showing interest in following the orders. The crowd of devotees traveling by tractor-trolley clearly indicates that there is a big lack in monitoring the security measures. Now it remains to be seen what action the administration takes on this negligence, or whether the crowd of Aastha is waiting for another accident.
