Haryana’s Anshul Kamboj has become the third bowler in the history of Ranji Trophy to take 10 wickets in an innings. In the Ranji match being played against Kerala in Lahli, he sent all the players to the pavilion by giving away 49 runs in the first innings. Kamboj had sent eight Kerala players to the pavilion by the end of the second day’s play of Ranji on Thursday. In the first over on Friday morning, Kamboj took his ninth wicket by dismissing Basil Thampi and completed his 10th wicket by dismissing Shaun Roger, leaving Kerala all out for 291 runs in the first innings.
Before Kamboj, two players in Ranji had achieved the feat of taking 10 wickets in the first innings. Premangusu Mohan Chatterjee of Bengal was the first bowler to achieve this feat in the 1956–57 season. Whereas Pradeep Sundaram of Rajasthan took all 10 wickets in an innings in a match against Vidarbha in the 1985-86 season.
Kamboj has also become the sixth bowler to do so in the first class. Kamboj is only the sixth Indian bowler to take 10 wickets in the first class, before him veteran leg spinners Anil Kumble, Subhash Gupte and Debashish Mohanty are included in this list.
Has represented India A in Emerging Asia Cup Kamboj has represented India A in the Emerging Asia Cup held last month. He bowled at an economy rate of 10 in the three matches played in the tournament and also took 4 wickets. Kamboj also performed brilliantly in the Duleep Trophy played this year. He was the top wicket taker.
Playing for India-C, he bowled with an economy of 3.19 in 3 matches and took 16 wickets. He took eight wickets in his second match in the tournament. In this way, he became the third fast bowler to take eight wickets in a match of Duleep Trophy. Before him were Mohanty (10/46) and Ashok Dinda (8/123).
Kamboj came into limelight during the last domestic season and was picked by Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2024 season. Last year, Kamboj played an important role in winning the Vijay Trophy for Haryana for the first time. He was among the highest wicket takers with 17 wickets in 10 matches. Kamboj has 23 wickets in 15 List-A games.
