Day two of Suriya’s Kanguva holds strong at Rs 29 crore. Amid mixed reviews, the makers address sound issues for a better viewing experience.
Director Siva’s ambitious action drama Kanguva, starring Suriya, Disha Patani, and Bobby Deol, is proving to be a solid contender at the box office. The film, which debuted on November 14, has maintained a steady performance, with a total two-day collection reaching Rs 29.54 crore (nett) in India across all languages.
On its opening day, Kanguva collected Rs 24 crore, a promising start that showcased Suriya’s star power and the film’s appeal among fans. Day two saw slightly slower momentum, with collections around Rs 5.54 crore (nett), according to Sacnilk. However, evening shows reportedly had higher footfalls, and occupancy rates for the Tamil version stood at 16.27% on Friday. With these numbers, the film’s domestic box office tally has reached Rs 29.54 crore (nett), while it amassed Rs 58.60 crore gross worldwide on its first day alone.
In Kanguva, Suriya takes on the dual roles of a warrior named Kanguva and a bounty hunter named Francis, each character linked across timelines to a shared mission. Disha Patani also plays a fierce bounty hunter, while Bobby Deol portrays a warrior rival. The film intertwines a tribal warrior’s quest to protect his people from colonizers with the present-day story of a bounty hunter.
While Kanguva has been praised for its action sequences and Suriya’s compelling performance, some viewers have criticised the loud sound design and Director Siva’s writing. Addressing these concerns, producer KE Gnanavel Raja recently revealed that adjustments were underway to improve the viewing experience. “We’ve spoken to everyone and asked them to reduce the volume by 2 points,” he shared, acknowledging feedback on the film’s audio intensity.
Adding to fans’ excitement, Kanguva also features a cameo by Karthi, hinting at a sequel, Kanguva 2, which would set the stage for an on-screen face-off between real-life brothers Karthi and Suriya. Released in both 2D and 3D, the film caters to audiences across all South Indian languages as well as Hindi.
