On October 10, 2013, Sachin Tendulkar took the decision of quitting cricket after playing his 200th Test.

India’s Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar retired from international cricket 11 years ago today on November 16. Widely recognised as one of the most complete batters in the sport, Tendulkar hung up his shoes during the 2013 West Indies tour of India.

The curtain came down on his storied cricket career as India secured one of their most comprehensive victories against a hapless West Indies who crumbled on the third morning of the second Test. A teary-eyed Tendulkar walked off the field to a guard of honour from his teammates. The Indian cricket icon soaked in all the cheers at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium one last time in his career.

Sachin Tendulkar’s final game began with India winning the toss and electing to field first at the Wankhede Stadium. Chris Gayle and Kieran Powell opened the chase for the West Indies on Indian soil. While the Caribbean team was packed with legends, none of them were allowed to get comfortable on the pitch by the Indian bowlers. A five-wicket haul from Pragyan Ojha and another three scalps from Ashwin curbed the West Indies at 182.

Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan kicked off India’s first innings in Mumbai. Both openers helped India to 77 runs before losing their wickets in the 14th over. Shane Shillingford dismissed the duo, making way for Cheteshwar Pujara and Sachin Tendulkar.

Pujara and Tendulkar anchored India’s innings by building a formidable third-wicket partnership. They combined for 50 runs in 63 deliveries with both surviving Day 1 of the 2nd Test.

Sachin Tendulkar completed his half-century on the second day. It took him 91 deliveries to reach 50 runs. Tendulkar had smashed nine boundaries on his way to the landmark score in his final game for India.

The batting legend was dismissed in the 48th over by Narsingh Deonarine, putting an end to his 1st innings knock. Tendulkar left the pitch with 74 runs in 118 deliveries and 12 boundaries. Cheteshwar Pujara completed his century as India finished with 495 runs.

Pragyan Ojha continued his brilliant form into India’s second bowling spell in Wankhede. He scalped five wickets as India halted the West Indies at 187. Sachin Tendulkar also delivered two overs but failed to find a single scalp. Tendulkar’s final game ended in a dominant victory for India as the host side won by an innings and 126 runs.

Sachin Tendulkar retired with 34,357 runs in 664 matches across all formats for India.
