The Indian national football team will take on Malaysia in a friendly on the 18th of November at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad in their final assignment of the year, and head coach Manolo Marquez, still eyeing his first win at the helm of the Blue Tigers reiterated his intent to get off the mark and demonstrate marked improvements.

“It’s a friendly game but it will be good to check the level against a Pot 2 team in the qualifiers,” the head coach said.

“We have gone a long time without a win, so obviously we want to win. We want to show the improvement that we’ve been making in every training session,” Marquez added.

Marques has overseen the side in a goalless draw against Mauritius before a hammering at the hands of Syria. His most recent test turned out to be another draw against Vietnam, and the Spaniard would likely be scheming his first triumph with India.

“Football is about attack, defence, transitions and set pieces. We need to improve in everything. For example, people say you played a great second half in Vietnam. I say yes, but we still made some big mistakes that almost made us lose the game. We need to work on that,” Marquez clarified.

Marquez went on to emphasise the need to minimise the number of errors in order to strive towards a favourable result and spoke of his familiarity with the upcoming opponent’s tactical stylings.

“The team with fewer mistakes usually are the one who wins the game. We will try to play a good game with fewer mistakes than Malaysia,” the 5-year-old added.

“We know the style of Malaysia. I know the coach well. They play good football and it will be a tough game for both teams,” Marquez concluded.
