In Majhgawan Khurd village of Ajnar police station area of Mahoba, 24-year-old Babita was shot with a pistol while coming out of the house to defecate. It is alleged that this attack was carried out by his brother-in-law Mukesh and two other people. Seriously injured Babita was taken to the Community Health Center.

The woman was living in her maternal home due to dowry harassment.

Babita’s father Ramsanehi told that eight years ago Babita was married to Mahendra of Rawatpura village of Kulpahar Kotwali area. After marriage, she started being harassed by her husband, brother-in-law and other in-laws demanding dowry. Four years ago, fed up with the harassment, Babita had returned to her maternal home.

Allegation of firing due to old rivalry

Babita had filed a case of dowry harassment against her husband Mahendra, brother-in-law Mukesh and other in-laws, which is currently going on in the court. Family members allege that due to this rivalry, brother-in-law Mukesh along with his associates attacked Babita fatally.

The accused fled from the spot

By the time the family members reached the spot after the shooting, the accused had fled. Babita was shot in the stomach, due to which her condition remains critical. Police reached the spot and started investigation. Doctor Shaji Rahil of the district hospital said that the woman was admitted to the emergency ward in a critical condition. Initial investigation is confirming that the injury was caused by a bullet. The situation will become clear from the X-ray report. At present Babita’s condition remains stable.

Police started investigation, search for accused continues

CO Kulpahar Harshita Gangwar said that on the complaint of family members, a case has been registered against brother-in-law Mukesh and other in-laws. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the bullet was fired from close range, which touched the body and exited. Police have started investigating the case and efforts are on to arrest the accused.
