Vikash Yadav, whom the FBI is looking for in connection with his alleged involvement in the conspiracy to kill Khalistani terrorist and US citizen Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, claimed a ‘threat to his life’ before a Delhi court.
Yadav, 39, moved an application before a Delhi court requesting to exempt him from attending his case hearing saying there’s a security threat to his life. He was granted exemption and has been asked to appear on February 3.
He was arrested by the Delhi Police Anti-Terror Wing Special Cell last year for extortion and is out on bail after spending a few months in Tihar Jail.
After walking out of the jail in April this year, the FBI’s New York office put him on its wanted list on October 18, according to reports.
The indictment by the US Department of Justice charged Yadav with leading an unsuccessful plot to murder Sikh separatist Pannun last year.
Yadav was an official of India’s Research and Analysis Wing spy service, the indictment alleged. Meanwhile, the highly-placed sources claimed that the person was no longer an employee of the Government of India.
Yadav’s Court Appeal
In a two-page application filed before the court, Yadav claimed that there was a false case registered against him by the Delhi Police.
He also claimed that there is a risk to his life, given his photographs, house address along with pictures, and details of his whereabouts are in the public domain, reported The Indian Express.
Supporting his claims, he produced an attached news report before the court that showed his picture. He further denied joining the case hearing even through online mode, citing the potential risk of his location tracking.
Yadav’s plea was listed before the Delhi court, which accepted the same and asked him to appear on the next date of hearing, according to reports.
On December 18, 2023, the Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Yadav after a Rohini resident filed an FIR against him, accusing him of extortion and kidnapping and alleging ties to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
