While preparations are in full swing ahead of the highly anticipated Border-Gavaskar series in Australia, several members of the Indian team took some time off to relax ahead of the series opener in Perth.

Senior batter KL Rahul along with his Karnataka-based teammates, Prasidh Krishna, Devdutt Padikkal and also Uttar Pradesh’s Dhruv Jurel were all seen on a video uploaded on Rahul’s official Instagram having a fun day out at the beach.

The players seemed to enjoy their time off as they head into what will be a gruelling couple of weeks with the five-match Test series against Australia, a contest between two of the biggest and toughest teams in the world.

Much will be expected from Rahul as he could likely open the batting for India in the absence of the skipper, Rohit Sharma. During preparations, the Indian team management was concerned after he was struck on the elbow. However, the concerns were put to rest after the 32-year-old made a swift recovery and was back in the nets practising.

Padikkal and Jurel were part of the India A side where the two had impressive performances which meant that they were called up to be a part of the main squad. With Shubman Gill’s thumb injury likely ruling him out of the opening Test, both men are in contention to take a spot in the starting 11.

The former Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter has played just one Test against England in Dharamsala where he scored an impressive half-century in the middle-order. Jurel, on the other hand, has been India’s go-to wicketkeeper-batter during Rishabh Pant’s time away from cricket, but his performances with the A-side resulted in gunning for a position as a specialist-batter as well.

India will certainly be put to the test as they aim to defend the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for a third-consecutive tour and also keep their hopes of securing a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) for the 2024-25 campaign alive after a disappointing show on home soil against New Zealand where they were whitewashed.

For India to nail their spot in the final, they would have to win four and draw one of the upcoming five Tests against the mighty Aussies, which will be a tough ask, even for the greatest Test side.
