After AR Ameen, AR Rahman’s daughters Raheema and Khatija have addressed their parents’ separation, joining the request for privacy during this challenging time. On Tuesday, Saira Banu announced her separation from the Oscar-winning music composer after 29 years of marriage.
The announcement came via a statement from Saira’s lawyer, Vandana Shah, which read, “After many years of marriage, Mrs. Saira has made the difficult decision to separate from her husband Mr. AR Rahman. This decision comes after significant emotional strain in their relationship. Despite their deep love for each other, the couple has found that the tensions and difficulties have created an insurmountable gap between them, one that neither party feels able to bridge at this time. Mrs. Saira requests privacy and understanding from the public during this challenging time.”
Sharing her thoughts on Instagram, Raheema wrote, “I would greatly appreciate it if this matter would be treated with utmost privacy and respect. Thank you for your consideration.” Khatija also posted a message on her Instagram story, stating, “We kindly request everyone to respect our privacy during this time. Thank you for your understanding.”
The separation has come as a surprise to fans who admired the couple’s 29-year bond. AR Rahman and Saira Banu, married in 1995, share three children: Khatija, Raheema, and Ameen.
In a resurfaced interview with Rahmaniac.com, Rahman had spoken warmly of his wife, recounting how they met. “In 1994, when I was about twenty-seven, I decided that it was time to get married. For some reason, I started to feel old. [smiles] My mother and my sister Fathima saw Saira for the first time at the shrine of the Sufi saint Moti Baba in Chennai. It was all very easy.”
Despite the personal turmoil, Rahman is focused on his professional commitments, with upcoming projects like Chhaava, Thug Life, Lahore 1947, and Genie, which fans are eagerly awaiting.
