Here’s a look at the top emerging players that the Rajasthan Royals produced last season in IPL 2024.
How do fortunes take steep turns in a tournament? Who would know it better than the Rajasthan Royals? After leading the points table for over a month, they hit a rough patch, culminating in a four-game losing streak towards the tournament’s business end, which shattered their chances of making it to Qualifier 1, and ultimately fumbling it at Qualifier 2, one step away from the final.
Despite the disappointing turn of events, RR showed great composure with a handful of young talents taking the stage and announcing themselves for the world to see.
A look at the emerging players that represented in IPL 2024:
Riyan Parag
The IPL 2024 saw the rise of Parag as a batter. After an a productive domestic season across formats, the youngster focused on his batting and finished the season as the highest run-scorer for RR, accumulating 573 runs in 16 matches. He was also the third-highest scorer of IPL 2024, after Virat Kohli (741 runs) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (583 runs).
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Calling Jaiswal a mere talent seems unfair in hindsight, given the absolute tear of a year the youngster has had for the Indian team across all the formats he played. Despite, his poor start to the IPL 2024 season, where he scored a mere 39 runs in the first 4 matches, the swashbuckling batter picked it up for the Royals and once again showcased his class with every drive.
Royals and new coach Rahul Dravid seemed to have placed their trust in the blossoming youngster, as the franchise retained him ahead of the auction.
Dhruv Jurel
All that needs to be done to talk about Jurel’s growth and the faith that the Royals have placed on him is to take note of the gains he has made by being retained.
From earning Rs 20 lakh to now being retained for a whopping Rs 14 crore, Jurel came out of the IPL Retentions as the biggest gainer across the league.
The young wicketkeeper-batter has also displayed great composure, calmness and calculated aggression with the bat in RR, first in 2023 by being a relentless impact player who came in to wallop the ball effectively, and then in 2024 as a calm finisher, having put up 195 runs at a strike rate of 138.30.
