The 16-year-old boy shared that his life-threatening ‘spine fixation’ surgery was performed at AIIMS Delhi.
A teen who survived a life-threatening surgery at AIIMS Delhi took to social media to share his gratitude for being “alive”. The surgery was scheduled for August 12 but it was postponed to a later date due to the nationwide doctors’ strike in support of the victim at RG KAR Hospital in Kolkata.
Harshit Sharma, 16, was diagnosed with kyphoscoliosis, a spinal disorder that causes a hunched back. To address this condition, he was advised to undergo “spine fixation” surgery, with a cost exceeding six lakh rupees. In a heartfelt Reddit post, he recounted, “I underwent my surgery procedure on 25th October – it was incredibly tough. I was in the ICU for 2 days. Doctors had to transfuse 9 units of blood.”
Following the procedure, he was unable to eat for 10 days: “I had 65+ stitches and was in such pain that even multiple painkiller injections couldn’t help. I couldn’t eat for 10 days.”

He also revealed that he suffered from a pre-surgery complication due to the hair removal cream used on his back.
Sharma expressed, “But I am so glad I am alive.”
Struggling financially, Sharma appealed for support, explaining that although he managed to raise some funds earlier, it was not “even half the money he needed” for the procedure.
“This post is to thank the people who contributed their hard-earned money for me and to address those who doubted me. I am attaching the discharge summary from AIIMS Delhi,” he further wrote in his post.
He attached a photo of himself in a hospital bed alongside the discharge summary to substantiate his account.
