A 28-year-old bride refused to marry a 30-year-old groom after the jaimala, alleging he was mentally unfit and less educated than her, causing a stir
A bride refused to marry the groom after the jaimala ceremony accusing him of mentally retarded and less educated than her. The rejection came in the middle of the wedding on November 17 at Mustfabad Kala village of Sultanpur in Uttar Pradesh. The wedding procession from the groom’s side had already come at the venue.
It has been reported that while the woman is a graduate, the man had failed in his 10th grade. The wedding procession from the groom’s side arrived at the woman’s house late in the evening. The woman’s relatives and fellow villagers welcomed the guests. After refreshments, some rituals were conducted. All the invited guests had started feasting.
This bride’s sudden decision led to a stir in the wedding pavilion. Before the incident, a meeting of both parties was held at the police station.
The 28-year-old bride, the eldest daughter in her family was about to get married to a 30-year-old man from a village in the Akhandnagar police station area. The bride’s father had three daughters and a son. He works as a labourer in Delhi.
The jaimala ritual was completed on a stage. However, immediately afterwards, the bride suddenly stood refused to marry the groom, alleging he was mentally unfit.
Elders from both families attempted to persuade her. Despite their efforts continuing into the morning, the bride refused to marry. The police reached the spot and tried to reconcile the two sides, but the matter remained inconclusive.
On Tuesday, the girl’s father and the boy’s father reached Dostpur police station. Following hours of discussion, both parties reconciled.
Dostpur police station in-charge Pandit Tripathi said that when the family of the groom returns the expenses of the Tilak ceremony to the bride’s side, the jewellery given to the bride by the groom’s side will also be returned. Both the parties have agreed to this settlement, the police said.
The bride’s family has refused to speak to the media. The groom’s father said that everything was going on as usual until the Jaimala ceremony. Following this, the girl went inside and created a ruckus for a pair of slippers and bangles, saying, “I will not marry. I forgot to take them.” The girl’s family has said, “Give us our Tilak expenses and take back your jewellery.”
