Samay Raina Remains Unaffected By Backlash Over Deepika Padukone’s Depression Joke – News18
Last Updated:
In a recent episode of India’s Got Latent, one of the contestants was seen joking over Deepika Padukone’s depression.
Comedian Samay Raina, also the creator of India’s Got Latent, recently found himself under fire after his reaction to a contestant’s joke on depression. In a recent episode of India’s Got Latent, a contestant took a dig at Deepika Padukone’s postpartum phase, even mocking her depression. “Deepika Padukone also became a mother recently, right? Great, now she knows what depression really looks like,” the woman said. While her joke left audiences in splits, even showing the judges visibly amused, this didn’t go down well with many internet users.
The internet strongly reacted to the joke and the judges’ reaction, criticising them for making fun of mental health. However, it seems Samay Raina, one of the judges on the show, remains unfazed by the backlash.
Taking to his social media platforms, the comedian reshared a Reddit post about the controversy and urged people to show more outrage to gain ad revenue. “Guys, it’s not fair. You cannot outrage on Twitter. Please outrage on my YouTube comments section so there is some ad revenue at least,” he wrote in response to one of the tweets.

The comedian also shared a post on his Instagram stories and echoed similar sentiments on the platform. For those unaware, the episode in question saw Raina alongside panelists Tanmay Bhat, Raghu Ram, Dr Sid Warrier, and Balraj Singh Ghai showing a hilarious reaction to the joke on depression. Criticising the insensible remark, a user wrote, “I have seen one of the most woke, understanding and rational people to be Indian women. But some women like that lady from @IndiasGotLatent are genuinely disgusting. She somehow managed to slander her own entire existence for 5 mins of clout. She’s a Bengali and a woman.”

Another commented, “Welcome to India where you will find one woman making fun of other woman just to get male validation Deepika never blame anyone for her depression she just wanted people to talk openly about their mental health.”

“A contestant on India’s got latent trolled #DeepikaPadukone for her fake sob story which she created to defame her ex,” a comment read.
Deepika Padukone, who has always remained vocal about her depression, is yet to react to the ongoing controversy. On the personal front, the Bollywood actress recently welcomed her first child, a daughter named Dua with her husband Ranveer Singh.
