The first match of Border Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia will start from tomorrow at Optus Stadium in Perth. This series is very important for India to reach the WTC final.

What will be the combination of the Indian team in the first match of the five-match series is a big question. Extra bounce and pace will be seen on the pitch of Optus Stadium. Recently, McDonald, the head pitch curator of Western Australia Cricket, had said, ‘This is Australia, this is Perth… I am preparing a pitch which has great pace and bounce.’ In such a situation, the Indian team can field with five batsmen, one wicketkeeper, two all-rounders (one spin and one pace) and three pacers.

However, before finalizing the final 11, the team management will have to find answers to three questions…

  • first question- Who will be the opener in the absence of Rohit Sharma? Rohit will not play in the first test, he has taken a break. KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran are the options. Rahul has experience of playing 53 tests. Whereas Abhimanyu has not made his debut yet.
  • second question- Shubman Gill is injured, he will not play the first test. Who will come in his place at number three? Devdutt Padikkal may get a chance in place of Gill in the first test.
  • Third question- Which all-rounder will debut, Harshit Rana or Nitish Reddy? Both the players are fast bowling all-rounders. But according to reports, both of them impressed with their bowling during practice in Australia.

Rahul likely to open with Yashasvi Indian captain Rohit Sharma will not play in the Perth Test. In such a situation, KL Rahul can open with Yashasvi Jaiswal in his place, although Abhimanyu Easwaran’s name is also among the contenders. Gill has a fracture in his thumb. In his place, Padikkal will be at number three. In the middle order, Virat Kohli will be at fourth position, Rishabh Pant will be at fifth position and Jurel will be at sixth position. Pant will handle the responsibility of wicketkeeping.

The team can field with 2 all-rounders The team can play two all-rounders in this match. Having two all-rounders will strengthen the depth in batting and bowling. It seemed certain that Ravindra Jadeja would be playing for spin in this, but due to the abundance of left handers in Australia’s top order, Ravi Ashwin may also get a chance. At the same time, either Harshit or Nitish will get a chance, who will be the option for the fourth pacer. Both the players can also debut together, but by doing so the team will field two experienced players on the difficult pitch of Perth.

3 pacers can be part of playing-11 Fast bowlers have got 73 percent of the wickets on the Perth Stadium pitch. So far 4 test matches have been played here. In these, bowlers took 139 wickets, pacers got 102 wickets and spinners got 37 wickets, that is, pacers got 73.38% wickets and spinners got 26.62% wickets.

In such a situation, Team India will give a chance to 3 fast bowlers in the playing-11. These will include Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj and Prasidh Krishna. Akash Deep is also a part of the squad, but there is little hope of him getting a chance. In this match, Bumrah will take charge of the team in the absence of regular captain Rohit Sharma.

7 players including Akash, Easwaran will not be part of playing-11 In the 18 member squad of Team India, 7 players will sit on the bench. Among them, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Washington Sundar and Akash Deep are more likely to sit out. Gill is injured, while Rohit has taken a break from the first Test. Ravi Ashwin and Nitish Reddy may also be out of playing-11.
