With exit polls having predicted a close fight this election, all eyes will be on the 288 seats of Maharashtra. At least 37 seats in Maharashtra saw a close contest in the 2019 polls, with the margin being less than 5,000 votes.

One such seat was Chandivali, which ended up with the Shiv Sena recording the lowest winning margin for a candidate in the 2019 polls. Sena’s Dilip Bhausahab Lande beat Congress’s Khan Mohd Ari (Nassem) by just 409 votes. In Daund, where BJP’s Rahul Subhashrao Kul beat NCP’s Ramesh Kishanrao Thorat by 746 votes.

The entire political landscape of Maharashtra changed after the 2019 polls when the Shiv Sena announced an alliance with the Congress and NCP, ditching its age-old ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
