The committee gets rent
The faith of the Muslim community of the area is attached to the Jama Masjid located in Nagara. There are 35 shops in the middle market in the name of this mosque which is more than 7 decades old, the rent of which is received by the Mosque Committee. But, most of the shopkeepers have been tenants of the mosque for generations and pay only Rs 300 to 400 as rent per month.
Due to this, the mosque gets only 19 thousand rupees as rent every month, due to which it has become difficult to conduct even the regular functions of the mosque. The Sub Post Office, which occupies a large part of the mosque’s property, has stopped paying rent for one and a half years.
There is a dispute going on with the sub post office
The Chairman of the Mosque Committee said that a new agreement was made with the Sub Post Office every 5 years. In the agreement of 2008, rent of Rs 1700 per month was charged from the sub post office. Till last year, the same fare was being paid by the post office, while no new agreement was made.
The mosque committee complained about this to the Waqf Board and also demanded increase in the rent of the sub post office. The Waqf Board gave notice to the Sub Post Office, after which the rent of the Sub Post Office has stopped. The dispute regarding rent has been going on for almost one and a half years.
Mosque gives 7% of income to Waqf Board

Senior Postal Superintendent Varun Mishra said, “The Mosque Committee itself has stopped taking rent from the Sub Post Office. A committee has been formed to determine the fare. If the Masjid Committee talks with the Rent Committee then a solution to this problem will be found.
In Premnagar area, the fare can be determined afresh by estimating the fare of other government departments. But, the mosque committee will also have to provide facilities. Efforts will be made to hold talks with the mosque committee soon.”
Meanwhile, Jama Masjid Committee Secretary Haji Rasool Khan said, “The committee is earning only Rs 19 thousand every month from rent. The rent of shops has not been increased for years.
The sub post office was paying only Rs 1,700 as fare, about which the Waqf Board was informed. The Waqf Board had given notice to the post office asking it to pay a monthly rent of Rs 15,000. Since then rent is not being charged. The rents of shops should be re-determined.”
