Last Updated:
The Met Department predicts an upper-air circulation over the South Andaman Sea could develop into a low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal by Saturday
A low-pressure system is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal by November 23, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The Met Department reported an atmospheric upper-air circulation prevailing in the South Andaman Sea and adjoining areas on November 22. Consequently, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeast Bay of Bengal by Saturday. It will then move in a west-northwest direction, potentially strengthening into a depression over the South Bay of Bengal within the following two days.
An atmospheric downward circulation prevails from the southern Andaman Sea region to the Gulf of Mannar. An area of low atmospheric circulation persists over south Kerala and adjoining areas.
From Friday to Saturday, light to moderate rain is likely at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Similarly, on Sunday, light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at many places in coastal Tamil Nadu, a few places in interior Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
Cuddalore, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram districts and the Karaikal region are likely to experience heavy rain.
The IMD has said that there is a possibility of heavy rain in the delta districts on November 25 and 26. It has been mentioned that there is an atmospheric circulation over the Kumari Sea and adjacent areas.
Chennai and its suburbs can expect partly cloudy conditions for the next 24 hours. Some areas of the city may experience light fog in the morning. The maximum temperature is predicted to be between 30 and 31 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to hover around 23 to 24 degrees Celsius.
The Meteorological Department has issued an advisory to fishermen, urging them to avoid the southeast coastal areas, Gulf of Mannar, Kumari Sea, southern parts of the southeast Bay of Bengal, and the south Andaman Sea on Friday. This advisory comes in light of anticipated cyclonic winds, with speeds expected to range between 35 to 45 kmph and occasional gusts reaching 55 kmph.
Also, it has been reported that the upper atmospheric circulation formed along the South Andaman in the Bay of Bengal is likely to develop into a new low-pressure area on Saturday. Due to this, the Meteorological Department has also mentioned that there is a possibility of moderate rain in a couple of places in Tamil Nadu for the next three days.
Moreover, there is a possibility of very heavy rain in five districts of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukottai and Karaikal areas on November 25 and 26.
Similarly, on November 26, there is a possibility of heavy rain in Cuddalore district, four districts namely Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Ramanathapuram and Puducherry, the Met Department has said.
