61. Chelakkara is an Assembly (Vidhan Sabha) constituency in Kerala. This constituency is located in Thrissur district and Cochin region of Kerala. Chelakkara Assembly seat can be classified as: –. The reservation status of this seat is: Scheduled Caste. Chelakkara is part of the 9. Alathur (Scheduled Caste) Lok Sabha constituency. There are a total of 140 seats in the Kerala state Assembly.
CONTESTING CANDIDATES
In the November 2024 Assembly bypoll, there were a total of 6 contesting candidates, while in the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections there were 4 candidates for this seat.
List of candidates contesting in the 2024 byelection: Haridasan (Independent), K Balakrishnan (Bharatiya Janata Party), Lindesh K B (Independent), Ramya Haridas (Indian National Congress), Sudheer N K (Independent), U R Pradeep (Communist Party of India (Marxist)).
PAST ELECTION RESULTS
In the 2021 Kerala Assembly election, K Radhakrishnan of CPIM defeated C C Sreekumar of INC by a margin of 39,400 votes which was 25.82% of the total votes polled. A total of 1,52,595 votes were polled in the election, of which CPIM got 83,415 votes which was 54.66% of the total votes polled.
K.Radhakrishnan (CPIM) won the Alathur Lok Sabha seat, of which Chelakkara is a part of.

The gazette notification for the Chelakkara bypoll was issued on October 18, 2024 (Friday), the last date of scrutiny of nominations was October 28, 2024 (Monday) and the last date of withdrawal of nominations was October 30, 2024 (Wednesday). This constituency voted on on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 and the counting of votes is happening on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
In the 2021 Assembly elections the counting of votes was held on Sunday, May 2, 2021.
