Taking a big step to illuminate the city, Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation has so far installed 45,000 electric street lights. A recent survey found 8,000 street lights were switched off. Repair of all these lights should be ensured before Makar Sankranti (Khichdi Fair).

Special focus on solar lights Under the Solar City project, a comprehensive survey of solar street lights installed in the metropolis has also been started. Vendors of NEDA (Non-Conventional Energy Development Agency) have been alerted to repair the damaged lights. The Municipal Corporation has also provided the list of vendors to the ward councilors, so that they can complain about faulty lights in their wards and get the repair work started immediately.

Important decisions taken in the meeting In this important meeting of the Street Lighting Department, the Municipal Commissioner directed to repair all the closed street lights within the stipulated time. The officials present in the meeting were ordered to speed up the preparations in view of Makar Sankranti. Additional Municipal Commissioner Nirankar Singh, street lighting in-charge Santosh Mishra, assistant engineer Mohit Gupta and other officers were present in the meeting.

Work on smart city project intensifies 1,000 solar lights given by NEDA under the Smart City scheme have already been installed in 10 new wards. Additionally, a target is to install 1,250 solar lights in 80 wards, out of which this work has been completed in 39 wards. The work of installing lights will start soon in the remaining wards.

Solar high masts will be installed in dark areas 300 solar high masts are to be installed in the metropolis. Of these, 200 highmasts have already been installed in 45 wards. Also, 100 high masts have been installed at dark spots of the city, where earlier there was no lighting system.

CCMS will provide better monitoring On the lines of smart city, street lights and solar lights will be monitored in Gorakhpur through CCMS (Central Control and Monitoring System). The Municipal Commissioner directed the CCMS company to survey all the switches installed in the metropolis and organize them immediately. Information about switched off lights should be given to the supervisor and they should be rectified immediately.
