Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj ‘Bites The Dust’ In Debut As NDA Gains Bihar – News18
Last Updated:
The BJP went ahead of the RJD and Jan Suraaj to win all four by-poll seats- Tarari, Ramgarh, Belaganj and Imamganj.
Political strategist Prashant Kishor faced a major setback on Saturday after his newly floated Jan Suraaj party failed to bag even a single seat out of the four in Bihar that went to by-election on November 13.
All eyes were on Kishor who had earlier claimed that before contesting all 243 seats in the Assembly elections next year in October-November, his party Jan Suraaj would make major parties ‘bite the dust’ in the by-polls itself.
However, the BJP-led NDA went ahead of the RJD and Jan Suraaj to win all four by-poll seats- Tarari, Ramgarh, Belaganj and Imamganj, notably with a record margin, putting all the narrative set by Kishor and his associates to rest.
The four seats in Bihar had fallen vacant as the sitting MLAs were elected to the recently held Lok Sabha elections from different constituencies. Tarari MLA Sudama Prasad became MP from Bhojpur and Ramgarh MLA Sudhakar Singh won the Lok Sabha polls from Buxar seat.
Similarly, Imamganj MLA Jitan Ram Manjhi vacated the seat after winning the Lok Sabha elections from Gaya (Reserved) seat. He also became the Union Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Cabinet. Belaganj MLA Surendra Prasad was also elected to Lok Sabha from Jehanabad.
Jan Suraaj’s Poll Debut Shatters
Kishor, who actively held ‘Padyatras’ across every ‘Kasba’ of Bihar, had launched the Jan Suraaj political party on October 2, which marks Gandhi Jayanti.
“You all need to say ‘Jai Bihar’ so loud that no one calls you and your children ‘Bihari’ and it feels like an abuse. Your voice must reach Delhi. It must reach Bengal where students from Bihar were beaten. It must reach Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Bombay wherever Bihari children were abused and beaten,” Kishor added during the launch event.

The first major electoral test in front of Kishor was the by-polls, which seems to be shattered with results being declared in favour of the BJP-led NDA.
During the launch event, Kishor noted that his party had been active on the grounds for the past two years in Bihar, well before it was accepted as a political outfit by the Election Commission of India.
However, with a major setback in by-polls, Kishor and his Jan Suraaj must be looking for the Bihar Assembly polls, expected to be held next year between October and November.
