Abhishek Bachchan recalls his mother, Jaya Bachchan was ‘disturbed’ after she was asked to imagine her son was no more for a scene.
Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan shed light on things that actors have to go through while performing difficult scenes by sharing a personal anecdote. In a new interview, the ‘I Want To Talk’ actor revealed that his mother, veteran actress Jaya Bachchan was asked to imagine that she is identifying Abhishek’s body for a scene in her comeback film, Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa. The thought, Abhishek said, left his mother disturbed.
Abhishek, who was the assistant director in the film, revealed director Govind Nihalani had given the directive to Jaya and it had visibly shaken her. “I’ll tell you a very personal story. After many years away from the camera, my mother did a film in the 90s called Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa with Govind Nihalani. She came back home and I was an assistant director back then. She looked very disturbed, so I asked her what happened. She said, had to do a scene where ‘I had to go and identify the body of my son’. I didn’t understand,” he said, speaking with ETimes.
“So, Govind ji had given a very specific interesting direction to shoot the scene. He said, ‘Imagine that’s Abhishek lying over there’. This sounds really harsh, but that’s what actors go through. Even if he had not said that, that’s what she would have imagined to make that emotion real. You bring a lot of your personal stuff into your work,” Abhishek added.
Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa was pivotal for Jaya as it marked her return to acting after a 18-year break. The actress had taken a step away from the limelight after Abhishek was born to focus on her personal life. In 1998, Jaya made her comeback with the film and it was praised by the critics. The film, which also starred Anupam Kher, Milind Gunaji, Seema Biswas, Joy Sengupta and Nandita Das, won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi.
Meanwhile, Abhishek is currently seen in I Want To Talk. Directed by Shoojit Sircar, the film released on Friday, November 22, and his performance has been praised by critics and audiences.
