Kartik Aaryan, who is still basking in the success of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, began his journey in Bollywood in 2011 with Pyaar Ka Punchnama. Recently, Kartik shared a heartwarming memory of the moment he landed his first film. Overwhelmed with joy, he immediately called his mother, Mala Tiwari, to share the news. However, his excitement was met with her shock, as she was unaware that Kartik had been auditioning for movies. Concerned about his future, Mala even requested the film’s director, Luv Ranjan, to remove Kartik from the project so he could focus on completing his education.
In a recent interview with Galatta India, Kartik’s mother recalled, “He called me after his selection and was crying with happiness. He said, ‘Mummy, I lied to you, I came to Mumbai to get into movies.’ I lost my temper. I was like, ‘I sent you to finish your degree and get settled in life, why would you get into movies? There is so much uncertainty.’ I started to cry. He was like, ‘Why are you crying?’ I was like, ‘I am crying as to what did that director see in you?’”
Her worries led her to meet Luv Ranjan in person just two days later. She shared, “I just asked him (Luv Ranjan) one question, ‘Son, out of all the people in the world, why would you choose my son? Let us keep this between us, and please remove my son from the movie.’ But, he refused.” Eventually, Mala relented on the condition that Kartik would complete his engineering degree, a promise he kept.
In the same conversation, Mala revealed a lighter side of Kartik’s personality, joking about how the actor known as ‘Rooh Baba’ is actually quite timid in real life. She narrated how Kartik struggled with fear during his early days in Mumbai when he moved into a small one-bedroom apartment. “He was so scared to live there alone that he called me and requested me to visit him in Mumbai and help him settle down,” she said. “He refused to sleep in the bedroom and insisted on sleeping in the living room with me. He made me sleep near the door, saying, ‘If anybody comes after my life, first they will have to get past you.’”
Sharing another hilarious incident, she recalled, “It was summer, and there was an old AC in that house. Once, when he switched it on, several baby bats came out of it and hovered around him and fell on the ground. Kartik was so scared that he ran out of the house, shouting, ‘Mom, please make them leave, I am horrified.’” She added with a laugh, “This is how your Rooh Baba was in real life.”
Kartik’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which released on November 1, clashed with Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again. Despite facing stiff competition, the horror-comedy outperformed the Ajay Devgn-starrer, proving Kartik’s growing popularity and box-office appeal.
